Welcome to the Lilydale & Yarra Ranges Little Athletics Centre (LYRLAC) Web Site! Our site is full of up to date information on LYRLAC and Little Athletics in general. We hope you will visit us often.

Notice Board

Our Notice Board contains recent items of interest listed in reverse chronological order (most recent first).

SSSynthetic AthleticsTrack for Morrison Reserve!

It is with great excitement that our Centre announces that the Shire of Yarra Ranges has approved the funding of a synthetic Athletics track for our home at Morrison Reserve. The track will be built as the initial part of a new sports precinct development planned for the Reserve. $1.7M has so far been allocated for the track, and while a construction date is uncertain at this early stage, it could be as soon as late 2011.

The LYRLAC Committee would like to acknowledge the great work of our Centre Coach, Brendan Dixon, the efforts of previous Committees over the years, and the energy and vision of Yarra Ranges Shire Councillor and Deputy Mayor Tim Heenan - this would not have happened without them.

More Funding Required.......We need your help !

Our desire is for this track to be built to IAAF standards, capable of holding both Little Athletics and senior athletics events. However, for this to happen, we will require additional funding of at least $0.5M. We are planning to lobby the State and Federal Governments in the next few weeks for this extra money - so we are now asking all members of our Centre to urgently send letters or emails supporting this additional funding request.

Mark your message to the attention of James Merlino, Minister for Sport, Recreation & Youth Affairs or Kate Ellis, Minister for Sport - and forward to Brendan Dixon at bjandgirlsdixon@bigpond.com - Brendan will collate your messages and include them in the funding submission. If you have any questions, please call Brendan on 0439735911. We thank you in advance for your assistance in gaining a truly great asset for our Centre and the wider community of Yarra Ranges.

Cross Country Challenge

We had our annual Cross Country Challenge day at Silvan Park Reservoir last Saturday. The weather was ideal for racing, and we had a big turn out of kids and parents keen to test themselves in the handicap format. Thanks to Rob Belli and his helpers for setting up the great course - which wound through the bush on the edge of the park - and all the other officials who made it such a great day !

All Schools Championships

Some of our Centre athletes represented their schools in the 2010 adidas Victorian All Schools Championships held at Bundoora Park on 17 July. The championships were also used as the U14 - U20 selection trials for the Australian Cross Country Championships to be held next month in Bald Hills, Brisbane. Many of them were backing up from the Primary & Secondary school championships run during the week, and all competed superbly.

Outstanding performances from Zak Patterson (Gold Medal U16 Boys 4k) and Ryan Patterson (Silver Medal U14 Boys 3k). Both have been selected in the Vic team to compete in Brisbane, and we wish them the very best of luck at Nationals !

Knox LAC Cross Country Open Day

Knox LAC held their annual Cross Country Open Day last Saturday at Nortons Park. This event was very well supported as always, with many athletes competing from Centres around the State - resulting in high quality XC racing on a demanding course.

It was great to see so many of our athletes and parents competing. Special mention to Ryan and Zak Patterson who both won their age groups, and Tess Patterson, Braden Taeuber, and Andrew Butler who all came 3rd in their respective races. There were many other fine performances, and Our Centre also collected many team medals.

But the biggest story of the day is that we managed to win the Perpetual Trophy as most successful visiting Centre for the 7th time in 9 years - a great achievement ! The result went right down to the last race of the day, but we managed to beat arch rival Casey by a mere handful of points. We look forward to another close contest next year !
