A major change this season is the timing of the U11 Skills clinic.  This has shifted from early January to late September.  The focus of this clinic is technique and it was decided to start the athletes off in the new season correctly, rather than adjust things late in the season.  As a result of this change, we will be directly emailing the athletes inviting them to register for the clinic.  The clinic is only open to the new U11’s for the 2011-2012 season, not the current U11’s.  The same applies for the McDonald’s skills clinics, age groups are taken as of the 2011-2012 season.  All of this is advised on the registration form online.

Thanks and good luck with your planning and preparation leading into the new season.

Cross Country Season Wrap Up

Well another cross country season has been run and to say it was a real test for our athletes would be an understatement. Firstly the opening race of the season at Morrison reserve had to be changed  due to works and then the heavens opened up for the remainder of the season, we had some extremely damp courses but it was so much fun and brought us all together, helping each other thru it .
This season we had at least 59 athlete’s obtain a bronze attendance or better so the loyalty and commitment was outstanding, we keep coming back because we really enjoy it. The kids love seeing their parents run and vice versa so it’s a win win for all.
We had two visits away from home this season the first was the Knox Open day which was a little down on numbers although we had a great day on what was a tough course and overall we finished third   We also entered the Hills challenge and went too Cockatoo with a large contingent and had a great day on  a beautiful course, and were successful in winning the perpetual trophy.
I
would like to thank all the athletes who represented our centre during the season, well done to you all for giving it a go and a special mention to Ryan Patterson and Georgia Laven who had stella seasons by coming first at the Knox open day , first at Region and first at the State championships, a great feat, we are all so proud of you    Well done to the teams winners and place getters also.
Our season culminated in a team relay and bbq presentation day which was enjoyed by all

Now time for thank you’s, firstly to Ged  Thrall along with Sue,  Conner and Ryan who were outstanding in their efforts setting up each week and packing up, it is a big commitment, great job guys.
Thanks also to Andrew Butler for helping to set up.
To our fantastic group of starters and finishers, in  Rob Belli, Ken Taylor ,Susan Taylor, Kim Noonan and Leanne Blake well done and thank you. To Beth Anthony  and Hayley for being the recorders  and setting up the suspense of weather we got a pb or not.
To Petra Rampton, Darren Ford  for providing us with the best egg and bacon sandwiches in Australia.
To all the parents and kids who helped out during the season, you know who you are ,thank you so much.
I’d  like to personally thank Susan and Darren  for their knowledge, support and  dedication, cheers guys.and finally to the stalwart in Rob Belli who is an inspiration and has created a legacy that will go on, his template is perfect, make it fun and encourage all, thanks Rob.
I look forward to seeing you all next season and we will see what the elements throw at us then. Thank you and have a great and successful summer.

Lilydale & Yarra Ranges Wins the Hills Challenge Perpetual Trophy.

As a club we travelled to Cockatoo with a large contingent of families to conquer the Hills Challenge and that we did. On what was a perfect cross country course our  runners showed an enormous spirit and determination to give their all, most backing up for two races, some three, we really are very lucky to have such great people in our club. It was great to have the support of the spectators and other runners, it really makes a difference and helps get us over the line. The other thing that was wonderful was the sight of our kids playing ball games all together at the end of the day , our youngest to our eldest happily playing, not in front of a tv or computer.  A big thank-you to the team at Cockatoo who ran a magnificent day .  We love coming to your special event, and look forward to next years.
